As moms, we always want our children to pursue healthy habits. But how do we get them into the mindset that fruit and vegetables are better for their body than sweets and fast food? One ingenious way is to get them to play fun educational online food games. These games are also great for English Second Language learners, as well as any kid to learn the benefits of healthy eating.
Fruit educational online games
Start with Fruit Fit as it introduces the fruit vocabulary and has a very simple quiz afterwards where you have to select the correct fruit.
Then you can move on to a drag and drop game where you label the fruit in Fruit Word Game.
Then you can try spelling games, such as the 3 D fruit words. With this game you have to click on the letter block, then the place where it has to go and the man will bring it to the place. Having done this game with an ESL kid I will say it doesn’t give you a lot of time to assemble the letters for a slow moving kid, but it is a fun game. Give them some time to practice and they will get the hang of it.
There’s another spelling game where you literally type out the words here: Fruit words game.
Vegetable educational online games
Veggie friends is similar to the fruit vocabulary game in that it introduces the vegetables. But then it has a fun game where you dress up the vegetable with arms and legs like a person.
Then you can progress to drag and drop games from the simple Vegetal to the more complicated Vegetal Name.
Food and Maths online games
You can play Fruit Math, where the fruit is in place of unknowns which you must work out.
Healthy Food online games
In Fitness Food Run, if you eat the unhealthy food you gain weight but if you stick to the fruit you are fine. Double tap with your mouse to jump the gaps.
You can also show the difference between rotten or too cold food with Fast Food Combat. You have to be really quick to get to the food but if your opponent eats something wrong they will be so sick it gives you a chance to eat the good stuff! Another variation on this theme is the Healthy Salad Maker which is where you have to slice healthy salad stuff, instead of rotten stuff. This one is very fast so you have to be quick with that mouse.
With Tasty Kingdom, you don’t have a lot of time to eat that fruit before you “die”.
Recycling games
Just a heads up that these games take a while to load, so if you have a class, make sure you open those tabs ahead of time.
The Tom and Jerry Show River Recycle is a useful game to teach kids the importance of keeping our oceans and rivers clean. In the first level you are cleaning the river with a giant claw. You click anywhere and the claw goes. I was not very good at getting it in the right place, or else the whole thing could be random, but you do have to click for it to move. In the next level the stuff that you have collected goes to a recycling factory and you “power up” with batteries, scissors (to cut the seaweed) and fish food (to distract the fish). In fact I wasted a lot of time in one game waiting for the fish to get out the way, so this is definitely important.
If you’re looking for recycling sorting skills, Twin the Bin is for you. In this game you have to click on relevant passing objects so that they fall into the bin at the right moment. This is quite a tricky one and you have to be good at timing!
This site also has other diet resources such as

And just for fun if you want to see a construction worker boogie to the music go to Construction Worker Dance Revolution
Which was your favourite game?
