This year’s summit is an up to date reflection of current trends in the content creation world. We’re bringing in experts in UGC, Podcasting, collaboration, authenticity, motivation and more. I’ve really been touched by the wise words of these creators as I’ve been putting this together, and listening to them has opened me up to new ideas as well as cemented a few home truths that we all need to hear again.

User Generated Content

If you wondered about what all the fuss is about UGC, I’ve got two experts who will be sharing their opinions on this. Nick Duncan from Lit will be giving a presentation with figures backed up by the 20 000 creators on their platform, which really shows you the difference between UGC and Influencer content, and how you can actually leverage both to your advantage.

I’m also doing a live zoom on 23 April with Lakeisha Mugo from UGC Creator Circle who is from Kenya, but is intent on building and training UGC creators in both Kenya and South Africa after working in this industry overseas. You can read more about her ebook that I reviewed here.
Podcasting

Sean Loots is an expert strategist when it comes to podcasting, mainly because he believes that everything will be easier for you with a solid plan in place. It was also really interesting talking to him though, because he shared how his experience with his special needs daughter has made him appreciate small wins, and that has impacted his own podcast, “Something Shifted,” where he interviews people who have had a “lifequake,” or something that changed their lives. If you are interested in this form of media, I highly recommend this talk, because he breaks down some necessary steps that you need to take in order to make a podcast happen.
Motivation
If you’re feeling completely demotivated to make content, these two speakers will give you the push you need. They are the brains behind the “She-e-o Workshop” and I went to two of their events. You can read about Reset and Rise here.

Bernadene Oosthuizen is @your_motivationalcoach and she will be sharing how the right rooms grow your social media. It’s all about not only surrounding yourself with the right people, but building your own place in the sun.
Alethea Ross, @her_mindset_mentor, will be talking about burnout and how we can get that motivation back.
Authenticity and knowing your worth

Terrance Mentor shares with us about the importance of not attaching your self-worth to the numbers, and the danger of doing this as well. Terrance is a well known as @afrodaddyct and has shared his video techniques on this blog before here, and he’s done judge duty for the blogging awards too. So he brings a wealthy of experience and wisdom into this space.

What’s interesting about authenticity, though, is that you must have boundaries, and Rebecca Badrodin from @inthesestilettos shares her take on how it doesn’t mean full access and you do have a choice about what you share. She also shares how she knows which content does well, but if she only does the popular content, she’ll lose her voice. And she says that impact is more important than numbers.
Collaboration

If you’ve ever wondered about how to go about collaborating with fellow creators or brands, Eleanor Douglas-Meyers from 041Online has some tips about that. She also tells her story about how she got hacked and how this online magazine was a creation born out of that circumstance along with a dream of always merging her journalistic talents with her digital abilities.
Working with Brands

I’ve featured other PR before, but Samantha Curley Young from Captive Conversations is special because she used to be a blogger back in the day when we were meeting up in Joburg. She brings the benefit of both creator and public relations expert to her insights on what brands really need.
Small steps for big growth

Sometimes it all feels overwhelming to get where you want to go, but Awino Awiti @awinoawiti has some encouraging words and home truths for us. Don’t try and be perfect, she says, because where you are now: that’s a niche where other people are, and they will relate to that.
Blogging for Authority

Have a space on the internet for yourself. Brands will often google you before they want to work with you – what is coming up? Here I will share some tips on how I’ve worked on my authority through blogging and how I’ve structured my About Page to reflect that.
