There seem to be quite a few subscription boxes out there for kids and each of them seem to have their own specific niche. Recently we’ve reviewed the educational Wacky Box and in the past we have also enjoyed Kids Book Club. What we enjoyed about the Mom Ideas box was that it combined two things that Nicky really enjoys – arts and crafts as well as baking.
Nicky just loves baking. Personally I think it is because he likes to eat sweet stuff and lick the bowl. But he also takes pride in being able to crack an egg and on occasion has even invented his own recipes, sometimes with food colouring. So we had the shocking pink cake and a green cake for Elfie. (Elfie had to have a bath after that adventure).
We’ve always had a love for arts and crafts in this house, probably inherited particularly from my job when I was a preschool teacher and I had to do art every day! Nicky enjoys creating things and normally has his own way of doing so.
In the Mom Ideas box we received was a “Paint Your Own Mug” activity. Nicky painted a wolf on his cup and even did some painting inside the mug too.
When it came to making the cake in a cup activity we were happy to receive four packets of premix cake mixture. To this we added the wet ingredients. The box also supplies a whisk and Nicky had fun mixing it all together. The cake can be cooked in the oven or the microwave. We did it in the microwave slowly, one minute at a time. We didn’t manage to avoid the mixture overflowing, but that was part of the fun. Once the cake was cooked, Nicky insisted on pouring his mixture of ice cream over it and giving his own commentary on how he likes to do his own thing in the kitchen. He liked how it tasted too.
The packet mixtures were called “rainbow cake” because they had rainbow vermicelli in them, which gave it a bit of colour.
There were some more vermicelli and silver ball sprinkles to add and Nicky added those on too.
Another nice surprise in the box was the Acorn Kids “Squish n Squeeze” bath jelly. Since we have moved here to PE we have only showered. I bought a plastic tub at the beginning of the year but we never used it as a bath. It kind of turned into a laundry basket. But this seemed as good a time as any to test it out as a bath and Nicky had so much fun making bubbles. What’s more those bubbles lasted a very long time!!
We enjoyed this box very much and totally recommend it.
