It’s that time of year again. When your child will be constantly pestering you for certain Christmas presents. It’s all very well to celebrate with gifts, but for parents to gain the upper hand here, we have to milk this season for all it’s worth. By that I mean motivating good behaviour with an Elf. Here on the blog today we are giving away two sets of Elf for Christmas packs which includes a girl or boy elf and other bits and pieces to encourage them to be good little children that will remain on the “Nice” list!
The Elf has been a huge hit in our house and Nicky is completely besotted with it. He is pretty devastated that Elf will be returning to the North Pole at Christmas, so I think we will have to make an exception and extend his stay. I’m not sure why he loves this elf so much, it could be a comfort after his father’s recent passing, but in any case this toy is cheering us up a bit after a rather rotten 2018.
He has been carrying it everywhere around. He also likes to fling it in the air and catch it again.
Elfie even went with on one of Granny’s epic two hour walks. He started out balanced on Nicky’s hat but that did not last long. He went in the bag after that amidst much muttering along the way about how he wondered what Elfie would think about certain things they passed. He came out to see the river. Elf also came back with a rather dirty face after some mulberry picking. I was instructed that Elfie needed a bath and we cleaned his face up with soap and water!
Elf also has velcro hands which make it super fun to place him in different positions. Nicky put him on the bath rail and soon after we took this pic had him zip lining along.
He is there at bath time watching (far away from the water, as we don’t want him to get wet) and is even in the bed too.
Elf went on a ride on Coff-dog.
But let’s cut to the chase. As much fun as the toy is to play with, we wanted to get Nicky to do certain things I have been battling with lately. So in the reward chart I have listed:
-Getting dressed. Nicky is much more interested in playing with his toys in the morning than putting on his clothes. I literally have to take those pajamas off and start putting his Tshirt on over his head to get him going. I am in a big rush in the morning and I’m hoping this chart will help with independent dressing.
Nicky has also been preoccupied with taking Elfie’s dungarees off and on. At first he got it all wrong with the straps over the head but I showed him how to pull them up from the bottom, and now he frequently changes Elfie into his “new” dungarees. If some dressing skills are picked up along the way here, I’m happy.
-Making his bed. This never happens. So here’s hoping.
-Tidying up the room. This also hardly ever happens. And I hate tripping over all the toys.
-Brushing teeth. I normally put on the toothpaste for him etc but this is another skill I want him to do by himself.
Nicky is used to reward methods at school and already chose his stickers for getting dressed and brushing teeth which he did manage to do today.
Although reward charts do have their downfalls, I do notice some positive impacts sometimes i.e. they do help with a certain skill that does carry through. I used this method when I had a hot wheels boat and he was super motivated to do the tasks before he received the present.
There are lots of other bit and pieces in this kit. I liked the cute letters from the Elf – a hello and goodbye one. There’s also some reward and warning cards too. There’s a letter to Santa that you can write for your child (or they can do it themselves if older). You can even register your Elf online for personalised letters from Santa.
The unique kit includes:
– Christmas Elf Toy.
– An Arrival Letter from Santa
– Mini Elf Report cards
– 2 x Letter to Santa templates
– 2 x Official Nice List Certificates
– Christmas Reward Chart & a sheet of Elf
– Beware of the Elf Sign & Santa Please Stop Here Sign
– Departure Letter and Thank You postcard
We also received the Advent Letter Set, which has 24 letters leading up to Christmas from the Elf’s friend Pip who is still at the North Pole busy getting ready for Christmas. We are really looking forward to reading these in sequence.
There are lots of other offerings on their website, such as a sticker set, a light up door night light, a story book and a refill kit. Also check out their Facebook page and Instagram.
From these social media accounts I found out that they are also available at Spar and that Nikki Bush also likes them too.
