There are a lot of toiletries on the shelves these days when you are looking for something for bath time for your little one. More often than not, you’re considering such factors as what will be gentle on their sensitive skin, or assist in any skin problems, or at least not aggravate them. You also want your babe to emerge from bathtime smelling like the proverbial rose. Child’s Farm is an award winning British brand that is both paediatrician and dermatologist approved, as well as being a heart felt project of a mom who just wanted something special for her two daughters’ young and sensitive skin.
Joanna Jensen developed the products to suit her daughters’ fine hair and sensitive skin. She also lives on a farm and features their faces, together with those of her cousins and pets on the packaging. It’s really cute, for instance you’ll see a real face imposed on a cartoon drawing on the containers. The child and the dog are busy washing the horse for the conditioner bottle.
Essential oils
They not only smell great they also have other benefits. Peppermint oil contains a natural biocide which lifts off grime and tea tree oil can deter lice. The ones that are used are safe to put undiluted on a baby’s skin. It’s nice to have a product that isn’t oily too but does have the right benefits for your skin.
Natural Moisturisers
Vegetable glycerine hydrates the skin and hair and continues its work long after bath time. Plant derived oils such as argan oil reduce the amount of water escaping from the skin. I often feel that bathing does dry out your skin, so you need some kind of products that will help reduce this, especially in younger skin, which needs the moisture more. As you get older too, dry skin is definitely a problem for adults too, so it’s good for us too.
Natural Detergents and Preservatives
The surfactants are derived from beets, corn and coconut. Preservatives at the lowest safe concentrations are used as well as natural preservatives like rosamux, derived from rosemary. I do feel there are enough foreign bodies in the products we use these days, so it’s nice to hear that the more natural ingredients are used in Child’s Farm.
Sweet Smelling
I love the fruity smells in this range. They will suit you and your kids down to the ground. The citrus body wash is a lovely orange flavour and I use it too. Nicky absolutely loves bubblegum. The shampoo is in a blue bottle and we are both convinced it is a bubblegum flavour even though the label says strawberry. I think that’s because it contains organic mint. It might seem strange that I’m placing importance on smell, but Nicky has a bit of dandruff/ eczema going on in his scalp at the moment. So we have been using a dandruff shampoo which is helpful but it smells absolutely awful! So I like to use Child’s Farm in between as I know it won’t irritate his scalp and will at least give us a break from that terrible smell. As a mom you often have your kid in your lap and their hair in your face so it’s nice to have some fruity smells from him!
I have to also make mention of the moisturiser which has a distinct grapefruit flavour. It also has tea tree in it which has a number of healing properties. I have been using this moisturiser for myself as well and when I went to the hospital let Brett smell it as well as it was so rather unusual. But I really like it.
Often when something new comes into the bathroom it has to be inspected by Nicky’s favourite bath toys: Lion, Zebra, Horsey and Parrot. They all enjoyed the bubble bath and are quite happy hanging out with these products inspired by animals themselves. That’s why you’ll also see them in the picture.
Child’s Farm is available at Clicks and they also have a Facebook page. If you look at the Facebook page you’ll see quite a few stories from moms who have had success with their children’s skin problems eg cradle cap and eczema.
