Every little boy loves cars and trucks, and a fire truck has to be right up there with their favourite vehicles. The real beauty about this fire truck however, is that it has movable, functioning parts. It even has a hose that squirts water. In this post we’ll share with you the steps we took on the Driven fire truck to enable it to squirt water.
The Driven brand comes from the Ideal Toys stable. I was recently invited to an event that displayed a number of their brands. Some of the other brands included: Smart Games, where you move pieces of toys into patterns, Smartmax, which Tanya has written about here, all about magnetic toys, Our Generation dolls, Playgo toddler toys, Wonder Wheels which have a special durable plastic, B Toys, which has a distinctly South American theme and colour scheme, including fun musical toys and Yokidoo which have those fun pram clip on toys for babies as well as bath toys.
I was impressed with the very lifelike Tiny Bubbles brand of baby toys. These are made in South Africa. From a distance you’ll think they are real.
I was also very intrigued by the Engino brand (only in stores from December) which looks a lot like a Lego concept of building, but there are spheres that you lock in and turn and it also features very advanced characteristics such as solar power.
Some of other Driven vehicles that they distribute are pick up trucks, telehandlers, a recycling truck, a crane, a dump truck, backhoe loader, bulldozer, steam roller and cement mixer. The unique characteristic about this brand is that they have functioning, moving parts.
Nicky was really taken with the fire truck, and just to warn parents, you have to set a few boundaries here with regards to the squirting water, or else you will find water all over your laminate floor (yes, that happened to me…) So it was strictly limited to the bathroom and outside, unless the entire fire truck was declared empty and dry. And yes, he did squirt water at me when I was in the shower! Nicky even insisted on taking the fire truck on a play date and putting a seat belt around it to keep it in place.
So let’s get on to exactly how we get that fire truck to squirt water. Beforehand you would have unwound the pipe and got it into position on the extended ladder. There is a clip to put the top hose part in at the top, as well as when it is all wound up neatly at the bottom.
Step 1: Make sure that the tank is closed at the bottom. There is a release lever that lets all the water out at the top. So you have to pull that up to make sure it is closed. You can flip the whole thing over as well to double check this.
Step 2: Pour the water in with a jug. Kids will enjoy this.
Step 3: Pump the lever to get the water going. The first time you’ll have to pump it a lot. (The adult can do this). After a while you can actually feel the water starting to move, and soon it will be squirting out the top.
Below you’ll see a video of us putting these steps into action. We also tried to put out a fire on a candle (only do this with adult supervision). The wind kept blowing the candle out but hey, you can see the fire truck squirting water.
You can buy the Driven fire truck at Toyzone and Hamleys.
Disclosure: I was provided with the truck.

That firetruck is so cool. I love that it shoots out water and operates like a real fire truck. Also the dolls are adorable. I love that they represent various races.
