Today we meet South African mom blogger Nadine, who blogs at Smallberg Party of Four.
- What do you normally get up to on an average day? (Give us a brief description about yourself)
I am a mom first, so my average day starts with sorting the kids out for school in the mornings and then heading to work. I am a high school teacher and spend most of my day at school. I teach computer subjects including programming and computer skills. After school I make time to work on my blog and my photography before getting back to mom duties.
2) How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles and joys?
I love being a mom, everything about it, the challenges and the triumphs. I love teaching my kids skills and watching them develop. One of the biggest struggles for me is the lack of sleep for me. I find getting the kids into a routine that works is a key to so many successes.
3) Tell us about your kid(s)
Jayme, my son, is 10 years old. He is a creative soul and thrives on routine. He loves to build and create projects and spend time with friends. He is a gentle spirit and cares greatly for everyone and everything around him.
Alex, my daughter, is 3 years old. She is a wild child and a free spirit with a hint of clumsy. She is forever getting an injury and quickly bounces back and wants to try everything. She is an adventurer, strong willed and pushes the boundaries.
4) How did you start blogging?
My blog was something I wanted to do for many years but when I had my daughter it gave me a good starting point. I wanted to grow my blog as she did and share the things that work for us and we enjoy along the way.
5) Share with us a valuable blogging tip you’ve learnt. (or more)
Don’t overthink it. Write about anything and everything you want to share. Don’t compare yourself to what anyone else is doing. Work on your platform a little bit every day and watch YouTube videos to enhance your photography or related skills.
6) If you make money from your blog, give us a breakdown on how you do it. Give us some of your methods on how to get started on this, or any tips or advice.
If you want to make money from your blog you need to make sure you are seen. This means putting yourself forward for trade exchanges, commenting on posts of those bloggers that are well known, engaging with brands you enjoy, posting and tagging brands you already use. Engage with your audience, make reels to reach many new followers and post consistently. It’s a lot of work but it can be done. Just start, don’t over think it.
