In today’s post we meet Saadiyah who blogs at Momscaping.
Momscaping is a blog run by Saadiyah Abdullah, mom to 3 beautiful kids and a cat, wife to an amazing husband of 12 years and born creative running her own freelance design business. The Blog is for any mom or dad who are going through motherhood and parenthood struggles just as you may be, to know that you are not alone in any struggle you are experiencing.
1)What do you normally get up to on an average day? (Give us a brief description about yourself)
A normal day is waking up early before my kids are all awake and having a few minutes to embrace the day on my own. Making the kids breakfast, school run, managing the meals for the day and working on my freelance design business (@dezignboxsa). I have dedicated one hour a day to my health and fitness for the past few 5 months, and I use this time to workout at my home gym, which is my lounge lol. School runs once more, and the rest of my day is spent juggling work and kids. The evenings are the time I am most dedicated to writing on the blog and answering emails as the kids are all asleep and the quiet time with a cup of tea allows me to express my thoughts clearly.
2) How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles and joys?
Currently I would say my joys are watching my children grow into their personalities and seeing their curiosities build. The struggles are that as a mom I tend to always give my everything to my children, but tend to leave myself lacking; finding balance is tricky for me most times.
3) Tell us about your kid(s)
My eldest is a girl, her name is Lana. She is 10 now and I laugh because she tends to be like my mother, always making sure she knows what I am doing and asking me a million questions, lol. She is bold, confident and she loves to draw. I would say she took up her mom’s creativity. Next is Abdul-Waheed who is 8 and is my shy introverted child, he takes a bit of time to warm up to people. He loves Liverpool and being outdoors, he is starting scouts this year! Ariyaan is 4, my Marshmallow as we all call him, the softy, the baby and the one who always tends to get his way, maybe because he is the youngest or maybe because with the third child you are more at that stage of just not wanting to fight the crying battle on a daily, if you know what I mean.
4) How did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I felt when I had my kids there were certain things and topics we didn’t discuss as mom friends and even with our own moms or female relatives at times because of fear of stigma or not being accepted if we weren’t a certain kind of mom that many wanted to portray, ‘the perfect mom’.
So, in the hope that I could help moms like myself who had been going through struggles alone and getting a shock when they became mothers for the first time, the blog was a place with real stories that they could connect to and resonate towards. And in 2019 I started momscaping with my personal stories and other moms’ stories. Stories that can be shared openly or anonymously.
Motherhood can be a lonely place at the best of times and having a place of safety and acceptance no matter what your motherhood journey is, I feel is a blessing.
5) Share with us a valuable blogging tip you’ve learnt. (Or more)
1. If you are starting a blog, I recommend trying a free version of WordPress.com or any blogging platform. Blogging is not an easy thing to manage especially on a busy life schedule, so take some time to see whether you are able to keep it up and manage the time and upkeep it needs. Don’t rush into a paid subscription just yet before you know that whatever you are writing about is your passion, you need to love it!
2. I also recommend writing a few draft posts just to keep on hand for those days when you might have some unplanned event or you fall sick, and you don’t have the time to create posts that you want to for that week. Always good to be prepared.
3. I want to say that try to be consistent with posting and be honest in your blogs. Building your community on these items are very important to readers and followers. Be sure you are giving them great content that relates to them, we are all looking for a connection in life.
6) If you make money from your blog, give us a breakdown on how you do it. Give us some of your methods on how to get started on this, or any tips or advice.
Currently I am only using google ads on my blog which is also a tricky scenario, as it only works when people click through on the add, so I am not making a lot currently on this platform. But I am looking into one or two other blog income streams, if they work, I will share them on the blog! So, keep an eye out for it.
