If you’re looking for a tangible way to take Disney classic stories home with you, the Disney Book Club will capture those memorable movie moments into beautiful quality books you can share with your child again and again.
Nicky and I have been enjoying a set of four Disney books, and it’s interesting to see how they combine old favourites with the latest on circuit.
Bambi is an old favourite of ours which was included in the set. I’m afraid I struggle to get past the part when his mother is shot without tearing up. I have to promise Nicky every time I read it that I’m not going to cry again. So it’s a sad book but it’s also about overcoming a tragedy and taking leadership when the fire burns down the forest. I like the cute forest animals and the idea of the circle of life continuing.
Another one where there’s a death in it is The Good Dinosaur. Arlo’s father dies in a flash flood and the little dinosaur has to find his way home when he is taken away on another watery journey. This is a nice one about the importance of family and honouring your father’s wishes even when he isn’t there. (Come to think of it, not that dissimilar to Bambi).
I also like that Disney features strong female role models and Moana is an amazing young lady who saves her people. How powerful is turning a larva monster into a green garden with a blue heart and the words “Know Who You Are” ringing in the air? I think some days we all need to subdue that larva monster inside us by remembering who we really are.
The last book I am going to say something about is The Incredibles. This is just a fun book which Nicky really likes too. Here the whole family have super powers and are there for each other in their times of need. This is a film only very recently on circuit so it’s nice to be so up to date.
It’s all family, wholesome stuff, and it takes you back to the movie you enjoyed too.
Find out more about the Disney Book Club on their website.
Also with the books you’ll receive a newsletter with crafts, recipes, parenting tips, competitions and other activities. If you look at their site you’ll see they have some cool Disney printables too to colour in. (You’ll need your membership password to take advantage of these).
So if you add that up, it’s R189.98 for two books per month which includes R40 of postage.
Great value, especially that first lot where you get two extra books for free.
We really enjoyed our Disney books. Here’s that link again to their site.
Disclaimer: We were sent the books for review.

Hi Christina I am wondering if they are still up and running because I have a broken link plugin and would have disabled this if the link was broken. The link is: http://www.starachievers.co.za/ but if you try that you will see that it takes so long to respond. So I’m thinking they may have gone out of business what with Covid. It’s actually sad because Kid’s book club has also recently closed down. And that was a nice one too.

We used to be members of Disney Book Club for years. For the eldest, and I gave the books away. Then for the youngest as well. We had to start again. We just love the stories. They stay up to date with the most recent Disney stories.
