Are you tied of figuring out what to eat and where to source good quality food to cook? Daily Dish will solve all your meal planning problems with a cold box that arrives on a Monday with all the ingredients and recipes needed for four meals of the week.
I test drove the service and here are my conclusions about this clever option of preparing food.
-
Good quality food. I’d love to know where they source their food because it’s delicious. The vegetables are fresh, the meat is excellent (I particularly liked the pork chops) and they have fresh herbs as well.
- Tasty. My food is a bit on the bland side I think, after tasting these herbs, spices and sauces. The fresh herbs and neatly packaged spice packets give the food the wow factor. I particularly liked the creamy sauce on the lamb chops.
3. Well packed and preserved. The cardboard box is insulated with polystyrene as well as a few cold packs. Everything is labelled and there is a bit of an order to the recipes so that you use up what will expire first.
4. Convenient to cook. Daily Dish makes it super easy to put together a new recipe as well as provide everything you need. Instead of going out to buy that bottle of sauce or spice that you will only use a few times for a recipe, they have you covered with the relevant condiment in a little pouch.
5. Instructions. Each recipe comes with a set of step by step instructions. They are very simple to follow. I did notice, however, that there was an error. Apparently we must boil the kettle instead of preheating the oven for the potatoes for the garlic chops recipe. But I figured it out. Also, allow for extra time for cooking, most of the recipes took an hour, and that was with my mom helping me. The only one that was quick was the Tasty Tabbouleh where you only really had to fry the bacon and cook the bulgur wheat, the rest was a salad.
6. Kid friendly. Sort of. I knew my kid would probably not eat any of this food, since he is six years old and a very fussy eater. He likes everything separate for some strange reason. So I normally give him protein, starch and vegetables all in his subdivided plate and woe to me if any of the food touches each other! I chose the “Family Box”. This week I managed to give him two of the four meals. For the Chicken Mustard Burger I gave him a plain roll and chicken which he did eat some of, along with the chips. I also gave him some of his normal veggies. The Herby Garlic Chops were a winner. He ate up all the baby potatoes and beans. He ate some of the pork. I think that was new for him but he still ate some of it, so that’s winning for me. If you have a fussy kid you may
be able to feed him some of the selection, but make sure you have a back up plan.
The two meals that Nicky liked were my favourites as well. My mom liked the Tasty Tabbouleh. I think the Apricot Pitas were a bit of a disaster because I burnt the patties. But that was entirely my fault.
I did like the way they made the salads with lots of grated carrot and lemon. We even had pistachio nuts that had to be cut up for the Apricot Pitas which is a healthy protein to eat too. There’s a lot of tastly, wholesome food and it’s all very filling as well.
