With the second wave of Covid-19 hitting South Africa, it seems that we will be spending more and more time at home. With this in mind it makes perfect sense to make your living quarters/ and/ or home office more comfortable and a place you enjoy being surrounded by beauty or art that speaks to you. If you have some empty walls and are looking for inspiration, or perhaps maybe you just feel like a change, here are some ideas for wall art that may give your home a new look.
Many industries have been hard hit in 2020 but the home/ DIY sector has enjoyed a new lease on life as more people work from home and want to improve their surroundings, and will continue this trend even after the pandemic.
One way you can put a personal touch on your indoor area is hanging some tasteful wall art on your walls. What you do here is entirely up to you. Some of you may remember that time Gina organised my study and we took all the kid’s art off the wall and framed some tasteful flowers that Nicky had splatter painted. I also did an African themed wall with animals and a map of Africa Nicky had made with various colours and a rhino he had painted too.
In my new spot I’ve kept these flower paintings just above my linen drawers. They blend in nicely with the greenery outside my bedroom window. I really like to be surrounded by nature and they are a nice reminder.
There are some other South African mom bloggers who have done interesting things with their walls:
Check out Cindy Alfino‘s lovely wall of pictures and the quote “The best things in life aren’t things.”
I’ve been doing a bit of research on wall art options and there are quite a lot of choices out there – in terms of themes and materials.
As far as materials go you can go ahead with posters, canvas prints, tapestries (I have a nice one covering up my ladder!) and art prints.
If you’re keen to display African art there is a lot to choose from. You can even do a tasteful city skyline. Here is Johannesburg:
You could also go with animals in action. Check out these lovely SA prints.
I liked these lovely landscapes. How stunning is all this lavender with the sun setting?
Fine Art America also has Curated Art Collections which gives you suggestions on which pictures would work well together. Here you can choose from many themes from the Beatles to Tuscany paintings.
I know Loren from her scattered petals would love this pink one:
If fantasy is your thing then check out these amazing posters.
Your home is the place you can express yourself and by adding some beauty to your walls you will create a space you want to live in. Wall art may seem out of reach but it is possible to bring your dreams to life in your home.
