We didn’t have to drive too far to find these dinosaurs. Conveniently located at the Randburg Square shopping mall, we had fun looking at all these gigantic creatures and taking part in various activities. Dinosaurs are always a win with kids, and you can make it an educational experience too, with the information boards suitably placed next to each of them.
Although I live close to Randburg Square, I don’t often go there, so we wondered around a bit around the mall at first. We stopped for a pie (Nicky was hungry) and the pie guy directed us towards the 4th level parking garage area. If you are really observant you’ll see the dinosaur footprints leading you there up the stairs. (You’ll see the number 4 painted on the walls of the parking garage).
At the entrance there was some historical context showing the dinosaur eras.
Then we went inside and looked at the dinosaurs one after another.
The dinosaurs were very realistic and moving and making sounds.
I was particularly impressed with the Triceratops blinking his eyes and the feathered Dinosaur too.
After we had seen all the dinosaurs we entered a kiddie activity area. Note that you have to pay an extra R20 to ride the big dinosaur, but we had to do it!
There was also a virtual reality station with an IPad which you wave around as the dinos come to life. You also wear a headset which Nicky told me afterwards gave information on the dinosaur.
He also hatched from an egg!
Nicky really enjoyed digging for fossils in the sand.
There was also a colouring station with dinosaurs underneath. If you colour, pressing hard on top, you’ll see how the shape comes out. Behind him you’ll see that there was also a dino movie going on for tired kids (and adults) to take a rest.
Lastly, the kid’s favourite, the jumping castle was there to get rid of some energy.

Tickets: R75 and available online at Computicket but you can buy them at the door too.
Days: 10:00 to 17:00 Fridays to Sundays and every public and school holiday.
