I’d already been introduced to Mio skincare at the #JoziMeetup and enjoyed a rather informative talk on skin, and how it changes over time, so that it has different needs in different seasons of time and in our lives. This brand actually has two sub categories: Mama Mio (the pregnancy experts, and also products for new moms) and Mio: Fit Skin for Life.
During pregnancy and new-mama hood, your body is bursting with hormones, and your mood isn’t the only thing affected by these natural chemicals. Your skin is super-sensitive to hormonal changes, but on the positive side, most pregnancy-related breakouts subside after the first trimester as the oil-stimulating hormone production shifts from your ovaries to the placenta. Just keep in mind that your skin may teeter on the edge of breakouts until the little one joins the world, so keep up a steady, gentle skincare routine to keep your skin feeling gorgeous.
Mama Mio has a variety of products specifically for pregnant and new moms.
-Tummy rub oil and butter & Goodbye Stretch Marks(for stretch marks)(this first one is the one Kim K loves)
-Pregnancy Boob Tube (also for new moms – cools and soothes). I remember that one of the distinct irritants of pregnancy was sensitive boobs. So this one would have been a good one.
-Megamama (super rich Omega body lotion: nourishes, strengthens and hydrates dry skin as well as easing sore muscles and inflammation. I guess stretch marks should not be our only concern.
-Keep calm nipple balm: I love this name. I remember in those early days my nipples took a beating. It has organic oils calendula and Lanolin. You can also use it on lips, cuticles and elbows.
-Lucky Legs: cools weary legs as well as giving a circulation boost, helping with water retention.
-Gorgeous Glow: a deep cleanse that doesn’t strip the oil away. This is the one I tried out. I have to say I did feel very invigorated – it definitely helped me feel clean and alert!
It is packed with coconut derived cleansers, omega oils, antibacterials with pre and probiotics to balance your skin’s defenses.
What I also liked about it was the easy application. It has a pump action dispenser.
Mio: FIt Skin for Life is like a work out for your skin.
There are a lot of products under this umbrella: Workout Wonder (muscle recovery gel), Get Waisted (rehab for abs), Skin Tight (gym for slack skin), Shrink to Fit (for cellulite), Boob Tube + (for bust and decollete – helps for skin damage too, I need that!), The Activist (antioxidant for your skin), Future Proof (over achieving body butter), The A Cream (firming active body cream), Liquid Yoga (restorative bath soak – I need that!), Double Buff (dual action enzyme exfoliator), Mio Body Brush and Quickstart (exhilarating shower gel).
The one I tried out in this range was the Quickstart shower gel. It has a vibrant minty smell guaranteed to get you going. It felt soft on my skin too.
What’s nice about it is that it doesn’t dry you out, like normal soaps do. It uses ecocert coconut derived cleansers with a spearmint essential oil blend plus guarana caffeine to give you the push you need in the morning. What’s helpful about guarana is that the energy is released more slowly and is more sustainable than normal caffeine.
It was also easy to squeeze the liquid out of the tube. The nice thing about it as well is that because of the moisturisation properties, I could use my left over lather on my three year old as well.

e you didn’t know, quite a few celebrities use the Mio range. This includes Kardashian sisters Kim and Kourtney, Kate Middleton, Stella McCartney, Christina Aguilera, Victoria Beckham and many more. I bet Kim is layering on the pregnancy creams as we speak!
