Today we meet Kai, who is the ten year old son of South African Mom blogger Chevone, who blogs at Chev’s Life. You can find more of Kai on YouTube and Facebook.
- How did you get started with the videos?
I started making videos so that I can become famous.
- How much time do you spend in creating videos and how often do you upload?
I spend two to five minutes if I’m presenting on camera – often it’s done in one take and then editing can be anything from a minute to half an hour. I also create videos of me playing live games, but this is a recording of my screen and the video length can be anything from five to ten minutes. The number of times I upload varies; sometimes once or twice per week.
- Tell us about the equipment you use for video: camera, lighting, background. If possible give us some pictures.
I use a Samsung S6 camera, and normally natural light. My mom checks what the shot looks like before recording.
- Which room do you shoot in?
The location really depends on the topic, but most of my recordings are in and around our home.
- What editing software do you use?
I use VideoShow which is for mobile devices. I introduced my mom to the app and she mostly edits my videos for me because I don’t have patience. Most of my videos are done in one take and require very little editing other than adding my logo, music and subtitles which I choose while my mom edits.
This one is for my mom when it comes to the VideoShow app. I do however film my screen when I play games and I upload this onto my channel – this app is called Mobizen.
- Is there any video guru you have used as a resource, or a mentor you admire?
No gurus, but I look at Ace Family and Faze Rug YouTubers for inspiration as a YouTuber. I check their channels first thing every morning.
- What has been your most successful video and why?
My top three videos are: “I’m getting new hearing aids” and then “A visit to my audiologist” and then “Giant XTC review”. I think it got so many views because it is about things in my life that people are really interested in and I could tag people who had a personal interest in it like my hearing aids and people shared it.
- What are brands looking for in this medium?
You can’t really say because you need to know the type of brands, but I think a brand will look for quality content maybe and relevance?
Share your videos on your main social media platforms, and don’t be shy – your presence in front of the camera is important and know what it is that you want to say.
