Welcome to our monthly SA Mom Blogger feature! This month we are finding out more about Christine, who blogs at The Kenny Family.
1) What do you normally get up to on an average day? (Give us a brief description about yourself)
I’m a first-time mommy of 15 month old twin boys, a wife to a wonderful husband and a full-time working woman with a career in web development. My average day involves getting everyone ready for the day, giving lots of kisses goodbye, dashing off to work for 8 hours where I slave away behind a computer screen (the slavery being of my own choice of course) and then rush home where I get to spend the rest of the evening with my handsome husband and having the time of my life with my two busy little boys.
2) How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles and joys?
Having always had this idea of sitting with my little baby on a cute little rocking chair and reading stories or going off on weekend adventures to every little place we can think of, it was quite a shock to find out we were expecting twins. I hadn’t calculated two little babies into my “happily ever after”. Today, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Yes, there is no cute little rocking chair as there was no space in the room with two cots in its place. Reading takes on a whole new adventure as four little hands try to grab the book at the same time. Yes, weekend adventures need a whole lot more planning now that it involves a twin pram, two baby bags, two car seats and restaurants that might or might not have two baby chairs, but we have made so many good memories on our rushy, arms always full, crazy loud adventures, I wouldn’t swop it for anything. Being a mother to my two beautiful boys fills my heart to its absolute fullest on a daily basis, no matter how many struggles come with it.
3) Tell us about your kid(s)
Aiden has the most charming personality I have ever seen in a baby. From day one, he had every lady (and even the men) twisted around his little pinky. He’s always smiling that naughty little smile, like he knows something we don’t. He’s just started walking and has taken to it with tremendous pride and confidence. The look on his little face as he wobbles to us, arms stretched out in front of him, is absolutely priceless.
Dylan is my little baby. He has the sweetest shy smile and can spend hours just watching the world and all its people go by. He is perfectly happy to sit with his “buddie” and play and only looks over every now and then to make sure we are still around. He has an amazingly soft little heart and a tremendous love for animals.
4). How did you start blogging?
Having the twins, either during pregnancy or once they were born, always felt a little lonely to me. I never quite fit in with the other mommies. Looking for advice on how to raise my two little babies only got me so far and couldn’t help me with the time constraint of handling both babies, so I had to spend a lot time just figuring things out on my own. I guess I wanted to share my story with other mommies out there, yet at the same time do something special that I might one day print and give to my children. So my blog is a little bit of both. It contains some useful advice, some not so useful advice, a lot of personal opinion and a type of album/log of my daily life with my family.
5). Share with us a valuable blogging tip you’ve learnt. (or more)
Keeping a blog up and running isn’t something that just happens by itself. It takes a deep determination to write constant posts and a very strict inner self to stick to the topic of one’s blog.. I myself struggle with this every month.
6). If you make money from your blog, give us a breakdown on how you do it. Give us some of your methods on how to get started on this, or any tips or advice.
I have tried adding some advertising spots to my blog with the help of Google Adsense, but haven’t really made money from it, so I would love getting some tips and advice from other bloggers who have been successful.
