Today we meet South African mom blogger Megan, who blogs at Hopeful Treasures.
1)What do you normally get up to on an average day? (Give us a brief description about yourself)
I am a wife to Jason, and a mom to Noah. This year we have a whole new routine, now that Noah has started Grade1. So my days start super early – by my own choice! I’m usually up and out of bed between 4am and 4:30, when I have my quiet time. I can take my time doing what I want. I love starting my day this way! Once we’re ready to go it’s school drop off, drop husband off, and then I head in to work. I work for an architectural designer, and the bonus is that I work until 12pm. Once my work day is done, I fetch Noah from school, and then it’s a mix of lunch/homework/swimming/after school sports. Our afternoons are busy! I’m desperately trying to find the balance that works for us, where I give Noah the attention he needs in the afternoons, while also finding time to do the things I want to do, like write more. It’s a work in progress, and I am being really intentional about finding that time.
2) How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles and joys?
I love being a mom. I really do. I have a great days, with all the loves and cuddles and cute smiles from my sweet boy. And I have my not so great days, also filled with cuddles and smiles. I’ve struggled a lot with my own insecurities about being a mom. I don’t always feel like I’m good enough. I’m not organised enough. I’m not playful enough. I don’t do enough crafts and activities with my son, the way other mothers do. And so on, and so forth. But then my boy comes and gives me a hug, smiles at me, and tells me he loves me. And all is right with my world. All my insecurities disappear. When I look in his sweet face, it’s all worth it, and I am reminded that I may not always get it right, but I will keep trying, because he loves me, and I love him oh so very much! Watching my son grow up and develop and reach his milestones is incredible. Watching him excel in sports, and with his school work, and develop special frindships with other children makes my heart so happy!
3) Tell us about your kid(s)
I have one child – my handsome son, Noah. My husband and I adopted Noah in 2015. He is such a joy. He loves his sports – rugby, soccer, cricket, surfing, swimming, Formula One. His knowledge about sports is astounding – he tells us facts that we didn’t even know! He is a happy boy, with a smile and dimples that will melt your heart! He makes friends easily with other children, and does take a while to warm up to new adults, and that’s ok! He keeps us so entertained with the things he says and does. Life with him is never boring and always an advernture – and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
4) How did you start blogging?
I started blogging in 2015, when we began our adoption process. It was a way for me to document it all, as well as being a space where our friends and family could go read about where we were in the process. Then Noah joined our family and I started sharing about our life as a forever family of 3, and everything that goes with that. It’s grown a little from there, but I have not been writing as regularly as I would like to. One of my priorities for this year, is to write more, and be more consistant with blogging. Everytime I sit down to type up a post, I always enjoy it. Now to make it a priority!
5) Share with us a valuable blogging tip you’ve learnt. (or more)
Work out a schedule or routine that works for you, but also be flexible. And cut yourself some slack. You’re not always going to be able to get every post out exactly when you want (unless it is a sponsored post of course!). Life happens, and sometimes schedules can be turned on their heads. You will find that time to write your blog and post it. Also, just enjoy the process of writing. If that is how you relax and get your thoughts out and get some clarity, then write. And if it becomes a blog post, then good on you!
6) If you make money from your blog, give us a breakdown on how you do it. Give us some of your methods on how to get started on this, or any tips or advice.
I have not really made any money on my blog. I have had one paid campaign, but that’s it. I would suggest being consistent with your blogging. Other than that, though, I would be open to any tip or advice.
