Today we meet South African mom blogger Jenni, who shares about the large range of emotions motherhood has brought her. She blogs at My Journey as a Mom.
Hi!
So I’m so excited to be doing this ‘meet the blogger’ post! I’ve been part of the SA Mom Blog group for quite some time and had no idea I had to kind of introduce myself, my bad. Lol! Nevermind, better late than never right?
For those who’ve already done this will know that Heather kindly gives you a few questions to answer to help us get going so I thought I’d answer the questions and then also just write a bit about myself & why I started sharing my blog with the world!
Some brief info about me; my name is Jenni, I’ve been a mom since December 2015 and I am currently 18 weeks pregnant (baby boy # 2 due end May / beginning June 2019) and I live in Cape Town.
Ok here goes…
- What do you get up to on an average day?
Average day, what’s that? Lol my days are now easier to plan & manage than when Tristan (my now 3 year old son) was younger. He’s also at school 5 days a week so my time is my own again. However having said that I’m now 18 weeks pregnant so that will all change again in a few months time. Ok now that I’ve got you all up to date my average day starts around 6:30am with wake up and getting Tristan ready for school. Drop off is around 8:15am and then I try pop to gym for an hour. After that I have time for grocery shopping or seeing a friend before it’s time to fetch Tristan. He sleeps for about 1 – 1,5 hours and then we spend the afternoon playing together or with friends. Dinner starts around 6pm and off to bath & bed around 7:30/8pm. I crash into bed around 9:30pm.
- How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles & joys?
This is not quite as simple to answer as I had quite a tough start to motherhood – 14 months of undiagnosed postnatal depression. Yes, I’m serious. It was tough but once diagnosed things started to improve quickly and I got so much better! So if we take those first 14 months out of the equation, I love motherhood. I’ve never laughed (or cried) as much, I’ve learnt patience and to see the world through a child’s eye which is so lovely! My biggest struggle, still, is patience. I’m not the most patient person and that’s something I have to practise a lot every day!
- Tell us about your kid(s)
Tristan is now 3 (December baby) and threenager is a real thing! Wow, it’s like he changed overnight! Lol. Having said that he’s actually an awesome kid. Super polite and well mannered, kind, gentle and just my most favourite small person in the whole world. He goes to playschool 5 days a week – this is good for both of us. He’s a social child and loves being with his peers as well as learning. I love the free time (for now) and getting things done my way & not being dictated to by him. J
- How did you start blogging?
So this is quite a long one to answer but I’ll keep it short! I’ve actually kept a journal / diary since I was in school. I took my journal online in 2013 but only started to share it all with the world in July 2017.
I decided that I had a story to share (my PND journey) and I wanted to share this with the world because if my stories & journey could help just 1 person then I had made a difference.
There are 2 more questions but I’m not going to answer them otherwise this post will be like the longest ‘meet the blogger’ ever! So that’s just a little bit about me. I’m really trying to be as real & authentic as I can be because that’s what real life is. I have no bells & whistles and beautifully captured shots or a perfectly coordinated Instagram feed. I’m just me, a stay at home mom & wife trying to navigate my way through parenthood and if my blog can make someone laugh, cry or learn something useful then I am a success!
I’d love you to visit my blog and read my story & articles. You can find me at www.myjourneyasamom.com or on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/my_journey_as_a_mom/
Thanks for listening!
