If you ever wanted to put African artworks on your baby’s clothing, then you seriously need to have a look at the beautiful creations that Lyndall puts together for Africa Inspired. We have an awesome giveaway today – one lucky winner can win a printed babygrow which retails at R250 PLUS a framed print which is valued at over R600.00.
Africa Inspired – a unisex, minimalist, neutral coloured baby and children’s clothing collection by local artist, designer, Lyndall McCarthy – makes for a unique gift with every aspect of the process from design to conception being 100% local and unlike typical mass-market baby and children’s wear from chain stores.
The Africa Inspired brand was conceived as a solution to the frustration of looking for an affordable, no-frills, minimally pink wardrobe for Lyndall’s firstborn baby girl, Josie. Having specialised in printmaking in Fine Art Honours degree at Michaelis, UCT, Lyndall’s love for illustration and Africa’s animals inspired her to screen-print her original hand-drawn illustrations onto 100% cotton babygrows and T-shirts for children up until the age of seven years old. The challenge of not being able to screen-print over seams led to the single-seam design. The image wraps around the body which is now synonymous with the brand.
Printed onto 100% cotton single jersey knit fabric, which is breathable, light and soft, allowing for ease of movement and comfort, each product is tastefully packaged in a branded calico fabric bag and comes with an artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity and a poem about the printed animal, which is inspired by Lyndall’s favourite children’s author and English poet, Rudyard Kipling and his ‘Just So’ stories. “I’ve always loved literature and so I merged all of my passions together in an effort to bring the animals to life.”
While Africa Inspired is originally targeted at the local market, including anyone from pregnant moms to proud grandparents, the brand has received overwhelming interest internationally from foreigners wanting to represent a piece of Africa.
Local outlets include Lifestyle Surfshop, Cavalli’s Equus Boutique and Cafe Nood. Online, you can find Africa Inspired on Hello Pretty (local) and Etsy (international). Alternatively, order direct via email: info@africainspired.co.za. For more information about Africa Inspired, visit http://www.africainspired.co.za/, Facebook and Instagram .
