Whether you are a new diamond buyer or are experienced in diamonds, this blog is for you. Every diamond is measured in quality and value based on some parameters. There are four C’s of diamonds: colour, carat, clarity, and cut. A professionally qualified expert does the authorization of these C’s.
This blog post will outline exactly how to understand the complete details of these four C’s.
Colour
Each diamond is unique as it is naturally created in a harsh environment and various pressure conditions. This impacts its hues, making it fall under the white, hued, or fancy category. If the diamonds are absent in colour, they are denoted as white. These are widely popular and used in various pieces. Diamond rings are the best example of these diamonds offering eye-catching shine.
Other diamonds include yellow to brown, blue, pink, and natural hues of red. However, a truly colourless diamond is the rarest among all. Depending on the rareness, the prices of these precious stones can increase.
Carat
This is a denotation of a diamond’s size and the deciding factor in its value and quality. This is the most objective grade among all the 4 C’s. Carat is the mass or weight of a diamond. A metric carat is 200 milligrams, and a diamond of more than one carat is denoted in a 1.20-carat diamond. Larger diamonds are rare, which is why they are so expensive. Some common examples of these are the Koh-i-Noor, Incomparable, and Constellation.
Clarity
A clear diamond is more valuable as it is without flaws and reflects light better. This increases its appeal as it becomes more shiny. Clarity is nothing but the purity of a diamond and the number of flows on it. The internal flaws of a diamond are called inclusions, and external flaws are known as blemishes. Magnification techniques are used to determine these flaws and are categorized by experts into:
- FL (flawless)
- VVS (very, very slightly included)
- SI (slightly included)
- I (included)
Cut
Out of all the C’s diamonds, cut is the most important factor in its quality. This is because the precision of the cute decides its captivity and beauty. The more facets in a diamond, the more shiny it becomes. This is why a diamond cutter must carefully shape the diamond. One of the most famous cuts in a diamond is the round brilliant, with 57 facets. Others include square princess cut with 50 or 58 facets.
While buying diamonds, you must check the expertise of the cutter, as this can significantly affect the value. Always invest in a precise cut, as this creates a beautiful appeal and is captivating to the eye.
Additional C- Conflict-Free
Some diamond dealers use unethical practices to acquire diamonds. These diamonds may be used to finance a war against the government. So, to ensure you buy from a genuine dealer, look for an authentication certificate that is “Conflict-free.” These diamonds are sourced from stable countries and legal labor practices.
We hope you remember the importance of these C’s while buying your next diamonds.
Good luck.
