I’ve got childhood memories of going to Playland. Once a year my dad would take myself and my sister and we would have a certain number of fun rides. Then, the highlight for me would be the candy floss! Well, I got the opportunity to share this fun activity with my son and it really was a lot of fun for us to share these moments together.
We were invited to the opening of Playland and I’m so glad we went. I really think we need to do more fun things and create those memories, instead of working so much. It’s holiday time and what better way to celebrate the season than to have some fun!
So, let me tell you which rides we tried:
The Big Wheel
I love this experience because you get an amazing view of the beach, the fairground and the surrounding area of Humewood. There’s also nothing like being elevated from the daily stresses of life to give you that new perspective. It was definitely windy though! They let us go around about three or four times. It was really beautiful.
Tilt a whirl
Nicky and I got well strapped in for this one. I realised that wearing flip flops might not have been the best choice, so I popped them in my handbag! This thing literally not only spins around but tilts you up at an angle, so you better be prepared for that! It was so much fun though! I was too busy holding on to take a video here but I took a pic of us beforehand.
Pedal go karts
Nicky had fun pedaling a go kart around in circles for this one. He picked up some friends here as well!
Bumble Bees
There were a number of kiddie rides at Playland, but Nicky is a bit older so we didn’t go on all of them. There’s a cute little train and some spinning cups, among other things.
This Bumble Bee ride was quite cool, because Nicky told me afterwards that he could control the movement by pressing a button to make it go up and down. I think it’s still a cool ride for everyone, no matter what you age.
Bumper Cars
Of course my kid just loves this kind of thing. I mean, he’s already doing video games of cars driving around. But it was super cool to drive around and bump each other. You press a lever in the floor to go forward and you also have to use the steering wheel. Nicky said that if you turn it enough times it will go backwards as well.
Food
There are a lot of food stalls there. I noticed chips and biltong, particularly. No candy floss though! Unless I just didn’t see it.
Nicky had a slushy.
Temporary Tattoos
Right at the back there were some stalls and I was a bit curious. For R100 you can get a temporary tattoo sprayed on yourself. They have all sorts to choose from. Nicky got a car, and he has been testing me on how to spell “Lamborghini” ever since! Apparently it’s going to last about four days to a week.
Conclusion
All in all, a great experience for the family. Go ahead and make those holiday memories. You’ll never get that time back, and your kids will love it.
