Groclock helps your tot go to sleep and win one for yourself!

May 8, 2019 by Heather Step 33 Comments

I recently went to the lovely new Kid’s Emporium in Hyde Park to check out Tommee Tippee‘s latest addition: The Gro Company, which believes passionately in safer sleep, better sleep. It turns out that all their products are helpful with getting your baby or little one to sleep (e.g. Grobag, Grolight, Grocomforter) but one very interesting one stood out for me. The Groclock has a system of stars that elapse over time so that if your kid wakes up during the night, he or she will know it’s still the middle of the night and not the right time to wake up yet.

Nicky and I have also been testing the product out at home. Nicky has a bad habit of waking up at 4am sometimes and it drives me crazy. It impacts on my day as I have to very “with-it” to cope with looking after little kids.

So the first time we used the GroClock he wakes up at 4am. The clock is set for 6:15am which is when I want him to wake up.

The next night, after detailed explanations about waiting till all the stars are finished I get a plaintive call at 6am – “Mom do I really have to wait till 7? (it being weekend I put it an hour later).

“No Nicky, at least you did not wake me at 4, so that is progress!” The next few days he has been good, honestly I don’t even mind 5am as I get up at 5:30 anyway, I am just trying to get away from 4am.

Some of the features of the Groclock are:

  1. Design of stars leading up to the sun.
  2. Option to include the digital clock or not. The child (especially if older) can learn digital time too.
  3. Stars go out one by one during the night to show passing of time.
  4. A key lock option to make sure that little hands don’t bring on the sun too early.
  5. An option to set two wake up times (weekend/weekday or morning/nap time).
  6. Optional alarm feature.
  7. Suitable from two years old.

Here’s a video of our own Samantha Curley-Young telling us more about it.

And here is my instruction video on how to work the clock:

Other products on display I found interesting:

–Grobag which has all sorts of safety features to ensure safe sleep and is the only bag endorsed by the Lullaby Trust as it reduces the risk of SIDS.

–Groegg2 – which monitors the temperature of the room to within 1 degree of accuracy and also acts as a nightlight. I liked the feel of this egg – soft and pliable and the night light is a bonus too.  The Groegg2 has a handy colour guide which translates to the weight of the material one should dress your baby in dependent on the temperature of your room.

–Grofriends – plays soothing music or white noise when your baby wakes up and cries.  It has 4 different sounds and the Intelligent Cry sensor will activate your chosen sound if baby stirs or cries at night!

As you can see, all these products are designed so that both you and your bundle of joy both get a good night’s sleep.

The range is available at Baby City, selected Kid’s Emporium stores, selected Babies R Us stores and online from Charley’s Boxes, Takealot and Loot.

If you need sleep, these are some really good options for you.

Sounds fascinating. I don’t have a toddler anymore, but we just came to the end of our co-sleeping journey as my 5-year-old moved into his own bedroom. Interestingly, he has been asking for his own alarm clock.
This week for the first time, he came to our bed in the early hours of the morning, saying he was afraid of the dark. Let’s nip this in the bud.

What can I say about Rustenburg.. Rustenburg has What can I say about Rustenburg..

Rustenburg has massive mountains. They are beautiful, but difficult to climb.

The chess was challenging and Nicky got 4.5 out of 9 rounds, ending in 42nd position.

My hire car struggled up the hill and the clutch started smoking. After that I came early to make sure I got a parking spot at the bottom.

The electricity was intermittent. Out Guest house had a generator which they turned off at night so Nicky had to make do with a small portable fan.

Despite all this, we are grateful for precious moments which made this trip worthwhile.

Meeting your opponent that you just played at Nando's.

Jumping on trampolines and having fun at Sun City. I lay on the beach while Nicky and Deacon did the slides.

At the airport Nicky had fun walking both ways on the treadmill and Chelsea joined him too.

All in all I'm also super grateful that we made memories and to be home safe.

Would you like to create content but you lack foll Would you like to create content but you lack followers?

There is another option.

User generated content is where you produce content for brands, and it really doesn't matter how many followers you have.

Lakeisha Mugo from Kenya has put together a UGC guide that will give you the plan that you need.

What I liked about this guide:
📱No fluff, real steps.
📱Great ideas for engagement and what really makes a thoughtful comment.
📱Loads of templates for everything including letters to brands and even for feedback on your work.
📱Africa specific and relevant.

I know. Time flies. How did we get here?

I loved the quotes on the walls and the art work of the students. If I had to do school again, I think I'd do more art and cooking.

What would you do?

Anyway, let's hope Nicky gets accepted somewhere for next year. These applications are a lot of work. But I've done 3 of them now.

Nicky really likes this school. And of course he went straight for the chess.

A huge pylon collapsed due to vandalism, wind and rust.

And then your water goes...

You freak out and then you make a plan.
For the first morning, I hot spotted.

Then in the afternoon I went to my mom to teach the rest of my classes.

Since then I have basically moved all my food over to her house and started cooking there as well. I'm also going there to charge everything.

There's no point even using the gas when all the food needs to be kept cold so it needs to be done in one place.

For the water, I now have a system. We flush the toilet with pool water. Wash ourselves and dishes with tank water. And drink from the little tank.

Nicky has also adapted and is enjoying Granny's chairs.

Oh, and I've also been restyling furniture in my study. If the light is in front of me, it is better. I've been dealing with work assessments.

But we can't wait for the lights to come back on and running water.

Until then, I'm super grateful for family.
