Today we interview Sasha-Lee Findlay, digital and social media manager at Prima Toys. Sasha-Lee has harnessed the power of the unboxing trend and creates videos of Prima Toy products. So let’s learn how she does it.
- How did you get started with the videos?
Parents are always seeking new ways of finding out information related to the toys they are purchasing for their children and children are avidly watching YouTube videos that entertain and speak about the subjects they like. We found that the unboxing phenomenon was booming internationally and what better way to cater to the parent and child’s needs alike, than an unboxing video of the toys.
- How much time do you spend in creating videos and how often do you upload?
We upload 3 – 4 times a month, to keep the content regular and fresh. It takes quite some time to create a video from recording to post production and getting the final video out to the public.
- Tell us about the equipment you use for video: camera, lighting, background. If possible, give us some pictures.
We shoot the videos with a “homely” feel and natural light, as it has been proven that people and especially kids respond better to that than to a highly produced video shot in a studio with bright lights.
Smartphone cameras are just as good as independent cameras, these day. We use an Android phone, Xiaomi M4 – nothing fancy.
We mainly ensure that the logo is on the video and that we showcase the featured product clearly. We try not to edit too much and to keep it as natural as possible so that the children can identify with the honesty of the presenter. Adobe After Effects and Photoshop are used to edit the videos.
- What are brands looking for in this medium?
We think brands are mainly looking for people to interact with their brand and product on a new platform that is different to mainstream marketing.
- What is your advice for a newbie person who wants to get started with making videos?
If you really love it, you can make it happen.
- A video that has done really well:

Thanks for sharing this. I also agree that the more natural a video looks, the more the child can identify with it. I guess that goes for adults too.
