We enjoy playing card and board games with the kids. We have a few that are firm favourites but there are only so many times you can play snap or Go Fish. David has taught the older two how to play poker but it’s not really ideal so when Ksenia contacted me from Imagine Toys I was super excited to try out the various card games she has on offer.
My kids have had so much fun with these games. They are aimed at kids from 5 and older but the best part of them is that because they use your imagination, you really can do anything with them. Each set of cards does come with a set or “rules” on how to play them but we just did our own thing so that they were all inclusive.
Toddles and Bobbles
This is the most gorgeous pack of monster cards. The illustrations are just stunning. The rules encourage kids to make up names for each of the different monsters and then remember them as they turn over the pack, if you can’t remember the name or get it wrong then the next person gets a chance with the aim being to collect as many cards as you can. But you can really do anything with these cards. You can play snap, memory, you can use the cards to help learn about numbers and colours. The possibilities are endless. Emma can spend ages just looking at all the different monsters.
Quick Eye
I love this one and am saving it for our road trip in December. Basically it is a collection of words and then each person must give something that fits the description. So if you pick the word short, then you need to say Emma is short. There are rules that get harder for older kids as well. But again there is so much you can do with these.
Matryoshka
This is a simple game teaching colours and gestures. So you need to match the colours to the dolls and you copy the gestures of each doll. Again there are simplier rules – you can get your child to pick out all the dolls with purple or who have red arms.
As a parent these games appeal to me because it is not the same thing repeatedly. We are able to change the rules each time we play to suit all the kids. I would really consider packing them in if you are travelling over the holidays.
You can find out more about these cool cards on their website.
Disclaimer: I was not paid for this post but we were sent the three packs of cards mentioned in the review.
