Trying to find time to spend with your children can be a challenge in today’s busy world. The more children you have the harder it becomes. I have four children and it is near impossible to find time daily to be with each of them on their own, so I have shifted my focus from the amount of time I spend with them to the quality of the time we do have. It does take a little out of the box thinking but it can be done.
These are a few of my tips on getting in good quality time with your children.
- Take it where you can get it. We spend a lot of time in the car driving to and from extra murals. Often the younger two and I are alone in the car, we have some of our best conversations during these trips. There is nothing to distract them so they are more open to answering questions and engaging me. We also spend a lot of time watching sports, we use this as a time to connect as well. It is not conventional but we do have fun and have made some great memories.
- Meal times. Evenings are busy times and everyone is tired which means your kid are probably a little needier while you are trying to get dinner done. Let them help, they can pour the rice or pasta into the pot, help to cut up the veggies or add the spices to the meal. Even just sitting near you while you potter around in the kitchen will help them to feel like they are a part of the process.
- Take a time out and get down on the floor. Take 10 minutes, get their favourite game or toy and focus on only them while you play. A good nappy, like the Pampers Pants, will also help you make the most of play time. They have 12 hours of dryness thanks to the 2 dry zones that the Pamper Pants have and they have micro-pores which enable vapor to travel from inside to outside of the nappy to help your child stay dry. Their stretchy waist band and leg cuffs make for an all-round fit that adapts to your child’s movements and the design is less bulky which reduces leakages. You can get these Pamper Pants for both boys and girls.
- Family games. If you have a large family, board games can be a great way to get in quality time with your child. There are games that are suitable for a variety of ages so everyone can get involved.
- Running errands can be fun. Getting milk and bread or collecting a parcel may not seem like much fun to you but to your little one it can be an exciting adventure. Emma and I have the best time when we pop out to get a few things done. If you are like me, and have many kids, don’t take all of them though, take one or two of them if possible. You can also make these trips a little educational, talk to them about what you are doing and why. If you head into the shops, let them try find the brands you use.
Children appreciate every little bit of time you can spend with them, focus on that. You don’t need to spend an entire day with them, focus rather on the quality of the time you spend with them. Try to find time in your everyday activities to get quality time in with your children.
