Today we meet South African mom blogger Louide le Roux who blogs on Facebook at Chaos and Chocolates.
1) What do you normally get up to on an average day?
I sigh. Heavy and loud. Because, it’s another day that will be filled with either an ASD meltdown or an anxiety attack. Just kidding. I just sigh because I am awake. I love Chai tea. I love carbs (more than I love some of my own family members). I have three boys who I adore and who also drain me. My eldest suffers from depression and anxiety and my middle one has Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. My youngest dresses like he is on his way to Coachella and refers to himself as a princess. They are my life. I have a man who just oozes kindness and goodness and patience and who holds me together when I feel like a mess. I love writing.
2) How do you feel about motherhood – what are your struggles and joys?
Motherhood is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I respect women who didn’t want to have children, but I cannot imagine a world without my boys. I was diagnosed with ESS cancer three years ago and had to get a hysterectomy – against my will. I was shattered because I really wanted more kids. I know now three is enough for us. They make me so happy. Motherhood is bloody challenging and half of the time I am just winging it but I believe love conquers all.
3) Tell us about your kid(s)
Uff. How much time do you have? My three boys differ like day and night. The eldest is an empath, deep, old soul who is battling depression and anxiety (he got my genes). He is currently in therapy and just a beautiful, gentle child. My middle one is a bit like Hitler-meets-Sheldon Cooper. He has Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. He keeps us on our toes. And our knees. He loves animals and natural disasters and he is blatantly honest. My youngest believes in rainbows and unicorns and has an incredible assertive personality. He likes dressing up and he thrives on drama.
4) How did you start blogging?
We stayed in the UAE for a few years and I was very lonely and I started a blog to keep friends this side informed.
5) Share with us a valuable blogging tip you’ve learnt. (or more)
I am a horrible blogger. I am still learning and finding my feet! I know to blog you have to be really consistent and active without being spammy. Honesty is also a big deal. It helps to write honestly.
6) If you make money from your blog, give us a breakdown on how you do it.
I don’t make money from my blogging. I have been spoiled with freebies such as facials or massages, but no money yet. Wait, what? I can make money from this?
7) Give us some of your methods on how to get started on this, or any tips or advice.
I think it is important to have a thick skin. People are cruel and even more so over the internet. Never take it personal. Also never be scared to speak your mind. Some people are going to like you, some won’t. It’s okay.
