Last month we discussed what your blog needs. Once you have covered all of those areas, the next thing you need to focus on is creating good content that people want to read.
If you want to take your blog to the next level then you do have to do a little more than just write, you need to be able to write well, especially if you are looking to get noticed. A well written post will help improve your searchability and increase your chances of having the content shared, which is ultimately what you want.
There is a tried and tested formula to writing a good blog post though, if you follow these steps then you will notice the change.
Before choosing your topic, figure out who your audience is and write for them! If you are just starting out then decide who you want your audience to be. Do you want to become a beauty blogger? A mommy blogger? Once you have figured that out, the next step is easy.
Decide on a topic that will not only be interesting to your audience but will also be useful to them and make them want to share it. Make sure it is something you know about and can write about comfortably and with some level of expertise. Find something that interests you, that way writing about it won’t be a chore which will come through to your audiences.
Once you know what you are writing about find a catchy title, something that will get people’s attention. Follow this with an introduction that will captivate your readers. People won’t read further if the introduction is boring or doesn’t lead them to want to find out more. Explain what you are going to write about and make them want to read your thoughts on the subject.
Then the real writing can begin. There are ongoing debates about the length blog posts should be but there is little consensus on who is right and who is wrong. Some people prefer long posts, others search for shorter posts. If you know your audience, you will know what works for them, use that as your guideline but if a post feels like it needs to be longer then write it until you are done.
Editing your post includes adding your images, checking for spelling errors and adding any tags you need as well as making sure you have the key words you wanted to. Before you hit publish, preview your posts to make sure your images are the right size and in the right place. Images are a big part of the blog post, so make sure you use relevant images in the right place.
End your post with a question. This encourages your readers to leave comments and allows you to engage with them and build a relationship. Make it something relevant to your audience and something that will help you to learn more about the people who are reading your blog.
If you want to take your blogging to the next step and get noticed, you have to produce quality content.
