“How do I get brands to notice me?”
“How do I get onto mailing lists?”
“How do I get invited to events?”
These are definitely some of the most asked questions at the moment in our community and so I thought I would share a few of my ideas about to get yourself noticed!
Please just remember that nothing happens over night, it does take time.
- Make sure your contact details are clear and easy to find. If someone finds your site but can’t find how to contact you chances are they are going to move on, so make sure your email address is somewhere obvious on your site.
- You can contact brands/PR companies directly. Send them an email introducing yourself, attach your media kit and ask them if they could please add you to their media list.
- DO NOT mention free stuff. Do not ask for it, do not hint at it. Once you are on their radar it may come but do not imply that is why you are contacting them.
- Find brands that you like or that you know will suit your audience. Brands will be more likely to work with you if they feel our audience is their target market.
- Interact with brands online. Do not harass them or stalk them but if you use a brand then interact with them online, get involved in online campaigns they are running – a lot of the baby brands have things like “share a photo of your baby eating” etc – get involved. This one is probably the most time consuming and doesn’t guarentee results but it does have validity.
- Be professional! Remember you are representing your brand so be professional at all times, even if you don’t get the response you want.
- Be patient – if you email a company and they don’t respond immediately, be patient. PR peeps are generally very busy and have a lot going on, just because they haven’t replied doesn’t mean they haven’t added you. Wait a few days before following up.
I think the biggest thing to remember is whether or not the brands you are targeting and events you want to attend are relevant to your audience. There is no point in accepting work from a sports company if you are open about how much you hate exercise. You can’t review a baby pram if your youngest child is 13 year – you will damage your own credibility!

Thank you for the helpful article.
I second what Radhia is asking, where does one go about gathering contact info of PR companies who are Mom blogger friendly in order to introduce yourself?

This is really helpful! Thank you 🙂

Thanks for these valuable tips! I never thought of contacting the PR company until it was mentioned in the community group. Just a question, how do I find these PR companies and their contact details?

Awesome. I agree with Sharon that you need to keep a healthy balance between brands and personal posts.

Hi Laura and Heather,
Thank you for this article for all new bloggers, I think we constantly ask ourselves if we are doing enough to out our brand out there. These are great tips, I will definitely be applying them. Thank you for all the work you are both doing to drive the mommy blogger community in South Africa

These are great tips…. I’d also like to add that in my opinion, it’s also important to keep generating interesting content, with or without the support of brands and to keep a good balance between branded content and personal content.
