I’m not really a lady that wears makeup much. But it would be nice to look good. And every now and then something comes up that I need to look good for. I was invited to be a studio guest with Victorine Mbong Shu on involved parenting on online channel CTVSA and suddenly I had to have a TV ready face. Enter professional make up artist Ryno Mulder, who knew just what to do.
Ryno has a long history of makeup experience. His artistry and expertise has been seen in fashion editorials, real life makeovers, celebrity features and on the covers of top glossy women’s titles like Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Oprah, Sarie, Seventeen, Shimmer, Wanted and Psychologies amongst others. Ryno also counts Miglio and Honey Jewelry, the French edition of FHM magazine, Swiss department stores, Earthcote, Porsche Design and Vodacom as clients for whom he has styled billboards and catalogues. He has appeared on numerous TV, radio and a reality shows for SABC, DSTV and Revlon. Recent TV work includes the wardrobe styling of Life with Thami and Glam Guru with Hannon Bothma. He has also worked with magazines and companies such as Rooi Rose, Estee Lauder, Carpe Diem Media, Bona, Destiny Man, Soul, Finesse and Imablie Beauty.
Ryno also has a gift with words and is not only able to blog about the humourous side of fashion and beauty, he even wrote a book “Maklik Mooi” in 2013 which sold 10 000 copies.
So not only is able to make us look good, he can teach us how to do it too!
Ryno really has a passion for make up and he has a comprehensive set up of many products and different sized brushes and other applicators. I asked what brands he used and he said he did start with Bobbi Brown and Mac, but now also uses environmentally friendly products in line with his vegan beliefs.
I think makeup artistry really describes the process accurately, because for over an hour he painted my face. Literally. With all kinds of brushes. He even has a “palette” where he spreads the colour on and then uses the brush from there.
Honestly I have never had so much make up on my face and I even experienced something new that I have never done before – an eyelash curler! He also clearly defined both my eyes and eyebrows. Not sure what he did with those eyelids but it sure looked glam. I am such an amateur when it comes to make up but Ryno took it all in his stride and made me beautiful. While his cute little white dog looked on.
I think the most important thing is that Ryno gave me confidence for facing those cameras and looking darn good at the same time. I think sometimes it’s easier to face a situation if you know you are well presented. And after having my hair blow dried, my make up done and deciding on a blue dress, I was ready. Stay tuned on the blog for all about that interview!
My husband was also very impressed. He got so excited that he made it the background for his phone and then played around with some graphics and made me a cover girl! I guess he wishes I wore more make up more often…
