With the holidays just around the corner, you’re probably making travel plans. If you’re thinking of flying to another country, you’re looking at different airlines and trying to select the best options. One of the criteria you should be checking out is: what is the in flight entertainment and services like? Because you’ll need to keep your children busy on that long flight.
SA Mom Blogs was invited to an event put together by Emirates Airlines, to celebrate their twelve consecutive win of the world’s best inflight entertainment system at the Skytrax Airline Awards.
Their system is called “ICE” and includes 2600 on demand channels, live TV, music and computer games; 85% of the airlines have WiFi too.
For the children, here’s the scoop on what is offered:
- children’s headsets
-
fly with me toys. These are quite groovy. Travel Buddy you can hang on your bag, Carry Buddy which doubles as a pillow, toy, bag and blanket (the blanket is really soft), & Magnetic sketches. Nicky has already put the Travel Buddy on his bag.
- Fly with me Lonely Planet Kids rucksacks and bags: which have activities inside
- Fly with me Animals Magazine
- For babies and toddlers there are also products available such as toiletries, baby food, formula, nappies, feeding bottles.
- Programs include 50 Disney movies, Marvel movies, 25 kids channels
- Priority boarding for families with small children
For more info you can check out their website.
In any case, we were there to have fun and dress up! Nicky dressed up as a pilot. There were also air hostess outfits on offer and little girls had fun pretending to be those as well. I even tried on the hat. I liked the scarf.
Also on the tables were these groovy planes and Nicky and Jack (Laura‘s child) enjoyed playing with those very much. Also in attendance was Tanya with Max (from Rattle and Mum), Zoe from Born Geek, Sara (In Africa and Beyond) and Thando (from Modern Zulu Mom).
After we had finished dressing up and munching food we went in to the movie, Storks. Storks is about the birds who used to deliver babies but now deliver packages. When the baby making machines is accidentally activated, they have to deliver a very special one. (hmm this would really make infertility a lot more simple).
Nicky did not really make it till the end of the movie (he started playing with the chair and making a noise towards the end and fell asleep in my arms as we left the shopping centre) but it certainly was a feel good movie and we did very much enjoy the toys.
Thanks to Emirates for inviting us – this post was not sponsored but we did enjoy a nice movie!
And to all those enduring long flights with kids – good luck!

Thanks for the mention Heather. I certainly enjoyed it as much as my kids did.
