What’s on for Families in the Western Cape this weekend (6-7 May)

This weekend in and around Cape Town celebrate an apple or an olive harvest with their respective markets and festivals. You can also attend some classical music for kids as well.

  1. The Applewood Harvest Market and Tru-Cape Trail Running Challenge

Celebrate the apple harvest in the heart of the beautiful countryside they come from. Elgin’s annual Applewood Harvest Market and Tru-Cape Trail Running Challenge returns with a day of feasting and fun for the family. Kicking off with two trail runs through private farmland, the market follows with a generous offering of farm produce, baked goods, gourmet food from local restaurants and delis. Taste Elgin wines and cider, stock up on home-grown veggies, honey and more. Children will be entertained all day with old-fashioned fairground games.

2. Riebeek Valley Olive Festival

The ever-popular annual Riebeek Valley Olive Festival takes place on 6 and 7 May in celebration of a successful olive harvest. This is when the towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West open their doors and hearts to visitors by showcasing their finest produce: olives, wine, craft beer, food, organic soaps and gifts are but a few of the treasures they have to offer. Taste buds can be tantalized with some of the Swartland’s finest food and wine.
A choice of live music, kids’ entertainment, tractor rides, colourful local culture and family fun will enhance the belief that this is no ordinary festival, this is pure Riebeek magic at its best.
R80 gets you a welcoming glass of wine and access to the superb olive venues, farms, wineries and wherever there’s a buzz.
