What’s on for Families This Weekend in Gauteng (20-21 May)

This weekend in Gauteng you can get very fit. There are two cycling events and two walks happening. On the other hand you can tuck into some delicious pastries and fresh produce or go visit the Transformers. 

  1. Like2Bike Cycling Event

The Centrum Kids Like2Bike fun cycling series inspires kids 2-14 to be active outdoors on their bikes. 

There are different options for the race: 2km, 5km and 10km cycle as well as a long and short duathlon. 

The event is at 9am at Huddle Park in Linksfield. If you enter online it is R130 ad on the day is R140.  21 May.

2. Two Walks: Randburg area:

20 May: Adventure walk: Kloofendal Nature Reserve

Join Karin Spottiswoode from 8:30 am till 10:30am. R70 for adults, R60 for pensioners and R50 fro children. Phone Karin 0796935608 for more details.

21 May: Koppie Adventure: Melville Koppies

Park at Marks Park, Judith rd, Emmarentia, walk across Judith Rd to the Koppies’ entrance opposite.  Time: 8:30am. Adults R50 and R30 for children who must be over 6.  No dogs allowed.  For more info see their website. 

3. Hazel Food Market: Pretoria

The aim of the Hazel Food Market is to bring residents of Pretoria fresh products straight from the producer at a convenient authentic food market. Shop for fresh produce and mouth watering delights while your children play.  Among others there will be artisan breads, muffins, pastries, coffee, fresh smoothies and fruit juices. 

4. Cyclethonian Pretoria

This event is in aid of the Smile Foundation and Hospice Wits.  So join them on the bikes for a good cause.  The sessions are 50 minutes long with a break inbetween. 

The venue is Central Park, Menlyn Park shopping centre. R160 per person.  You can book on Quicket and as you’ll see, you can choose which session to attend, 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am or 12pm. 

5. Transformers Animatronics

The second last week to catch the Transformers! I wrote a post about it here

The exhibition features 12 animated Transformers (that’s Autobots, Decepticons, Rescue Bots and Dino Bots inclusive) There’s also this cool play area afterwards where the kids can build with various lego sizes and create their own transformer.

Adults pay R155,  children 5-17 are R100 and children under four are free. The family package is R440 for two adults and two children. It runs until 28 May from 10am till 7pm at the Red Shed at Emperor’s Palace. Drive all the way in right to the end past the casino and go park in the parking garage next to the Red Shed.  For more info see their website.
